More than 60 Chilean authors will attend the 47th version of the International Book Fair in the Argentine capital, which kicked off during the last week of April. From emblematic figures such as Gabriela Mistral to prominent contemporary writers like Raúl Zurita, Chilean literature has left a profound and significant mark on the international literary scene.
The long-awaited 2023 edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair (FIL Buenos Aires) has been inaugurated; and, on this occasion, Santiago de Chile is the guest city of honor. A renowned cultural event that brings together lovers of literature, writers, publishers and readers from around the world, the literary fair from across the Andes has this year placed special emphasis on Chile’s participation, further enriching the literary experience for visitors.
The Chilean delegation was led by Cultures Minister Jaime de Aguirre, alongside the Governor of Santiago, Claudio Orrego; Cultures Undersecretary Andrea Gutiérrez; the Chilean Ambassador to Argentina, Bárbara Figueroa; the Director of the Cultural Affairs Department, Carola Muñoz; the President of Fundación Enrique Lihn, Andréa Lihn; and the Executive Director of Fundación Imagen de Chile, Rossana Dresdner.
During the opening ceremony, organizing authorities recognized our capital city’s important contribution to the Latin American literary scene, noting that Santiago was chosen as guest city of honor to promote cultural diversity and strengthen ties between Argentina and Chile in the field of literature.
The presence of our capital as guest city will be reflected in various spaces in the literary fair, from roundtable discussions and talks, to book presentations and exhibitions. It will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the rich literary tradition our country is known for, and different cultural activities will bring attendees even closer to the vibrant cultural scene that is characterized by Chilean authors.
Fundación Imagen de Chile also celebrated this initiative by conducting exclusive interviews with four writers who demonstrate the quality and diversity of Chilean literature: Raúl Zurita, Elicura Chihuailaf, Carla Guenfelbein and Ariel Richards. You can read the interviews here.
Nearly 60 authors will share their work and experience with the Argentine public in the Santiago pavilion. Their participation promises to offer a unique perspective on contemporary Chilean literature. It will be open until May 15.
