Baked Apples

  • 4 large apples
  • ¼ cup (150 g / 5 oz) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • ¼ cup golden raisins, chopped
  • 4 small pats of butter
  • ¾ cup boiling water
  • Cinnamon and chopped walnuts for garnis
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream to serve on the side


  • Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Step 2 – Hollow out the apples with a punch or small knife. Cut the filling into small cubes and set aside. Place the apples in a baking dish so that they are not touching, then set aside.
  • Step 3 – Mix the apple filling with the sugar, cinnamon, walnuts and raisins. Fill the apples with the mixture. Place one pat of butter on top of each apple and pour boiling water into the baking dish.
  • Step 4 – Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are cooked through but not falling apart. Remove the apples from the oven and drizzle the juices from the pan over them. Let cool and serve with vanilla ice cream. Garnish with cinnamon.
