Fried Hake

  • 4 whole open and clean hake fillets
  • Ground white pepper, Juice of 1 lemon, 1 garlic clove, ground
  • 1 tbsp dry oregano, 1 egg, ½ cup cornstarch, ½ cup flour, ½ cup beer, ¼ carrot, grated
  • Salt to taste, and oil for frying


  • Step 1 – Beat the egg in a bowl. Add the cornstarch and flour. Beat until blended and gradually add the beer.
  • Step 2 – Add the grated carrot and season with salt. The mixture should be homogeneous but not too thick.
  • Step 3 – In a separate bowl, season the hake fillets with salt and pepper. Add the garlic and lemon juice, then set aside.
  • Step 4 – Pass each fillet through the flour mixture. Fry on both sides in a deep pan. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
  • Step 5 – Serve with potato salad, Chilean salad (tomato, onion, cilantro) or rice.
