Step 1 – For the fried dough: Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and form a stretchy mass without kneading, adding flour if necessary. Roll the dough until 1/2 cm thick and cut into 10 cm diameter discs. Prick the discs with a fork and set aside.
Step 2 – Heat the oil over medium heat in a pot and fry the dough in small batches until both sides are golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately warm or set aside while you make the molasses sauce.
Step 3 – For the molasses sauce: Heat all of the ingredients for the sauce in a pot until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Add the sopaipillas to the salsa and heat until they are soaked in the liquid. Serve hot.
