Wheat Berry Cakes

INGREDIENTES

  • 1 kg (2 lbs 3 oz) wheat berries (mote), cooked and peeled
  • 1 tbsp lard
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Honey
  • Jam
  • Pebre sauce
  • Garlic or herb sauce to serve

INSTRUCCIONES

  • Step 1 – Grind the wheat berries into a paste in a mortar pestle. Place in a bowl and add lard or butter and salt.
  • Step 2 – Shape into oblong balls with pointed ends.
  • Step 3 – Option 1: Deep fry catutos until lightly golden. Remove excess oil with a paper towel.
  • Step 4 – Option 2: Bake at 170ºC (340ºF) until golden.
  • Step 5 – For a sweet version, serve with honey or jam. For a savory version, serve with pebre sauce or garlic sauce.
