Diamela Eltit is considered to be Chile’s most outstanding and important writer, who confronted the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet with ideas, actions and literature. Diamela has been awarded the 2020 Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language, making her the second woman ever to receive it. Previous recipients of the award include Mario Vargas Llosa (2012), Sergio Ramírez (2014), Eduardo Lizalde (2016), Luis Goytisolo (2018) and Luisa Valenzuela (2019).
