World Vision International, the humanitarian aid, development and advocacy organization present in over 100 countries, honored the Chilean nurse Patricia Galaz as one of the “hidden heroes” that work daily to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, which has caused more than 4 million infections and over 250,000 deaths worldwide.
Patricia Galaz works in a public health unit at Hualqui, a rural community of around 23,000 people at the Biobío Region. According to her account, the Covid-19 outbreak has forced her to rethink her job since health personnel have had to leave the hospitals to the homes of patients, to deliver medical care and food. In addition, every day she must travel several times between Hualqui and Concepción (the capital city of the Biobío Region), 40 km away, for the collection and delivery of blood samples.
“I feel very honored. I think that this is a recognition to all the people who work on the front line during this health crisis and that are making a huge effort to combat this virus. It is a beautiful job and I am happy and grateful to have this privilege”, said Patricia Galaz who has been a volunteer for several years at World Vision International.
The humanitarian aid institution celebrates ordinary people who have extraordinary impact on the most vulnerable communities worldwide.
