On Saturday, it was reported that the town of Sotomó, in the Los Lagos Region of southern Chile, has become the first in Latin America to connect to Starlink’s satellite internet service. The service is being provided by Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and the SpaceX aerospace company.
The report was provided by Chile’s Transport and Telecommunications Ministry, after Minister Gloria Hutt formally launched the service on August 6 in this small town of only 20 families. Sotomó will form part of Starlink’s pilot program in Chile, alongside Caleta Sierra in the Coquimbo Region in the north of the country.
