More than 4.1 million Chileans have already received the first dose of the vaccine. Chile expects to vaccinate 80% of its 19 million inhabitants before July.
“In terms of speed of vaccination, we are the second fastest country in the world, after Israel,” said Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris on Monday, March 8. In fact, the COVID-19 vaccination rollout is progressing at an impressive pace in the South American country. Since the beginning of February, out of a population of 19 million, more than 4.1 million people have already received the first dose, which is the equivalent of 22% of the entire population, compared to less than 6% in France; 772,000 have been fully vaccinated. “Obviously, we are very proud,” said the minister, who has been a member of the right-wing government led by president Sebastián Piñera since June, 2020.
